Golf Expo

I went to the North Texas Golf Expo last Saturday.  I was able to attend the seminar conducted by Art Sellinger. I learned that playing golf is not about hitting the ball but having the right swing.

Golfing @ Ridgeview Ranch

*Ring Tone* I opened my eyes. Jesus is calling me. Yeah you read it right… not Papa Jesus 😛 … it’s my golf buddy lols … he woke me up around 10:00am “Hey! Liberty wake up… come on the weather is great … Let’s play golf.” … Ho hummmn ahhh hmmmkei yeah let’s hit some balls.

Besides I really need to continue feeding my tamagochi err my pedometer. Gee I added around 4.35 miles wuhoooo!

oki doki let's go!

oki doki let's go!

Ridgeview Ranch is the closest golf club from my place. Around 2.5 miles. Since I am planning to improve my skills in golf I decided to sign up and be a member of the Player’s Club. It’s $35/month for unlimited range balls, free clinic on Saturdays, free handicap, discounts for afternoon golf and merchandises. Not bad because 1 bucket of balls will cost you $5 and usually you’ll use at least 2 buckets at the driving range. If you hit more than 2 buckets per week then you save a lot of money. My plan is to use the driving range three times a week.

It’s my first time to finished an 18 holes. We started 2:30pm. I was in a conference with my plurk friends but I have to sign off. Sorry guys 🙂 … I missed the cheese max 😛 .

The weather is perfect that’s why there are lotsa golfers waiting. Kinda crowded. It took me a while before i got my perfect swing. I really need more practice. I am glad my guru is very patient. He always check my posture. “Bend your knees, eyes on the ball, don’t bend your left arm” 😛 I guess after 7 holes I was able to hit better hehehe.

And where are the golf pictures? … Ahh they’re here. <=== Click the link 🙂

9 holes @ Plantation

I was really waiting for Wednesday to play golf. I am so excited to use Golfy. And of course to gear up 😛 . I bought some good stuff from the Holiday sale. A lot of people say that playing golf is an expensive sport. Hmmmn yeah in a way because apart from the golf set and membership fee you need to buy apparels and accessories like comfortable shoes, wind shirt, vest, fleece jacket, gloves, caps, divot tool, tees, golf balls etc etc… especially if you will join tournaments and visit lotsa golf places. You don’t want golfers think that you don’t change clothes lols… so you have to buy some more.

But there are ways to save like what I did; I waited for Black Friday to buy the golf set. Then I attended a Ladies night throw at Golfsmith. They gave $25 cash card for all the ladies who attended the event and most of the apparels are on sale. My golf shoes initially at $49.99 dropped to $34.97 because of the event and minus the $25 cash card that they gave me… I ended up paying around $11 for my Adidas Paragon including tax.

Some more tips that I can share – surf, compare and check the Outlets store. Enough of the sale thingy… I want to share some pictures of my golf experience at Plantation.

We arrived at the golf course at around 3:30pm. We paid $19 for the 9 holes. Jesus is teasing me because I was like a kiddo with a new toy. My eyes are beaming when I showed him my Golfy.

It was a windy afternoon and that makes a little harder to get into the greens. Plus some holes are so tricky because of the lakes.

We were not able to continue with the 9th hole because it was dark and there are houses near the golf course. Besides we already lost some balls in the water and it would be difficult to find the balls at night.

Golf Clubs from Jesus

My passion in golf started when I played 9-holes at Frisco Lakes. Playing golf is fun and a good exercise especially with the kind of job that I have. I sat for 8 straight hours staring at the monitors, responding to tons of emails, escalations and troubleshooting different kind of issues. It is therapeutic for my back and just looking at the greens helps my eyes feel better.

Having said that I’d like to pursue golf like a pro 😛 . I mean I’d like to have a nice posture, perfect swing and of course to always hit the ball. Because sometimes I kept on swinging and never hit the ball at all hehehe. It looks easy when you watched Tiger Woods effortless swing. But try it… Boy it’s quite hard.

My friend Jesus encouraged me to buy my own clubs. Some people enrolled in a golf class and spend some bucks. But with Jesus guiding me I don’t need to. For someone just getting started in golf, expensive golf clubs are not necessary. It takes a certain level of proficiency before a golfer appreciates expensive and high technology golf clubs.

After office hours we always go to PGA Superstore and Golfsmith since they are just around the corner. He showed me the clubs and he explained the advantages and disadvantages of buying pre-owned clubs. He said that buying a set is better since it includes driver/wood, hybrid, irons, putter and the bag. There is cheaper one like $199 for beginners and a better one for $349 and I decided to get the latter.

Jesus and I worked on the same shift and almost every day we are talking about when will I buy my clubs? I told him that I am just waiting for the Black Friday to buy it. Actually every time I’m in the store I am itching to get one. But I am kinda short of budget. If I am not going on vacation this December I won’t have any issue on getting the pricy one.

At the middle of our golf conversation he said he still have to use 2 days of his personal leave. Being a permanent employee he has to use his leave or he will lose it. His problem is who will cover for him if he takes it. I said “I can cover for you as long as you will use it on weekends before I leave”. He said “sounds like a plan”. So I will be covering for him for his schedule on November 30 and December 7.

For those two days of overtime, I will be able to buy the golf set that I like so much. The $349 Women’s Turbo Acuity Plus. See how God works in a special way.

And here’s my new baby.

golfy

But you know what? When God works … He works tremendously… I waited for the Black Friday and the golf club price was reduced from $349 to $99.98 for Door busters. I woke up at 4:30am to be at the store at 5:00am and boy it’s worth it. Best deal ever.

Thank you sooooo much Jesus!

Golfing with Jesus

Yes you read it right… I played golf with Jesus this afternoon. He’s a co-engineer in the NOC. One of the best Service Layer guy who technically knew the in and out of Ring Back Tone and Contents… And one of the best golfer in Texas… ( I have to write all those stuffs because he patiently taught me how to play golf hehehe )

But kidding aside I learned a lot from him. My first lesson is to drive a golf cart… then followed by the golf basics and etiquette, golf equipments… and of course proper posture and swing techniques.

He promised to bring me to Frisco Lakes… I was lucky that we had a nice weather after 2 days of raining and cold temperature.

He let me borrow his clubs. I used the wood #9 for tee-off, then the hybrid (because the ball went so near … need to hit it closer to the green )…. Ooops the ball went to the bunker 😦 … I have to use the wedge … but i failed again ( of course what do you expect … I’m a beginner 😛 ).

I finally used the iron and …. yehey … the ball went to green… Now it’s time to use the putter… and I got my first hole.

Wuhoooo… feel so good. I enjoyed my golf lesson. We payed $25 for 9-hole but since we arrived late… around 4:00pm … we skipped some tricky spots and I was able to practice some more swings. Here’s my guru from Venezuela.

God is so good. He sent Jesus to teach me how to play golf 😛 . Here are some more pictures of my golf lesson. I might start saving for a golf set, shoes and accessories. We went to PGA Store afterwards and wow… a club for $999 … oh well I bought a used nike wood for ten bucks hehehe. I will use it for practicing a good swing… or maybe in a driving range.
